A unique space in France to immerse yourself in the world of mountain soldiers!
Established in 1888, the Museum pf French Mountain Troops is dedicated to an exceptional army corps. It will make you discover a collection and a culture in a place of meeting and exchange between the mountain troops and the public.
The museum offers you:
- An attractive circuit presenting the history of the French Mountain Troops from its origins to the present days,
- The exhibition of exceptional objects and spectacular reconstructions,
- A total immersion in the epic of the mountain soldiers thanks to poignant scenes on a real scale such as a trench of the First World War.
The Museum of French Mountain Troops takes a look at the issues and international commitments of our country, putting the mountain man and soldier at the center of his environment.
Overlooked 200 meters higher by the memorial dedicated to mountain soldiers, this museum also reminds us that the history of the Bastille and Grenoble is closely interwoven with the one of the mountain troops.

New exhibition
“Mountain Artillery”.
From February 10, 2024 to December 31, 2024.
A century ago, on January 1, 1924, the 93rd mountain artillery regiment (93rd RAM) was formed in Grenoble. A worthy heir of the 1st mountain artillery regiment (1st RAM), it is today the last mountain artillery regiment of the French Army.
“Not a step without support”: within the young Alpine Troops of the early 20th century as within the 27th mountain infantry brigade (27th BIM) in this 21st century, the “Rock and Fire” regiment remains over the decades the essential support component for the Mountain Troops.
In this anniversary year, the Museum of Mountain Troops invites you to meet these mountain artillerymen through a historical and thematic retrospective on mountain artillery and mountain artillery, in the Alps and well beyond.
Practical arrangements
