The cable car

The Grenoble cable car was one of the first urban cable cars in the world, after Rio de Janeiro and Cape Town.

It was in 1934 that a tourist cable car was built in our beautiful city of Grenoble. Its construction was on the initiative of Paul Michoud, Vice-President of the Chamber of Tourism and Mayor Paul Mistral and his successor Léon Martin.

More than 24 million people have used the cable car since its opening. With an annual average of more than 300,000 customers and opening hours of over 4000 hours per year, the Grenoble Cable Car has an outstanding record.
